What is Mundane Astrology

Mundane comes from the Roman word 'mundus' which means "world." The study of this astrology is called Mundane or Political astrology which brings answers regarding, for example, a revolution of a country and other such signifying changes. It is a descendant of one of the oldest branches of astrology, the judicial astrology. Based on the major events or happenings of the country, birth charts can also be created for the respective country. A declaration of independence or the ending of a world war are a few of the events in history which are taken into account for such country natal charts, where the houses govern various factors of the country.

The rules are too intricate to admit a clear definition and too contradictory to be easily reconciled. There are certain demerits in this particular field; with the little available literature, it is very difficult to find out from where potential problems will arise and by whom they will be produced - it is all a matter of ambiguity. Judicial astrology is still in its initial stages and has to be further developed before it can give clear forecasts and become beneficial to the public.

Till recently the predictions in mundane astrology were limited to or dealt with very few fields, such as politics of a country. They were mainly short term predictions and if they were more elaborate, then they dealt with questions of war and peace on a continental or world scale. Although it was originally developed in ancient Babylon there have been three subsequent major periods of development. This ancient branch of astrology which was originally developed in ancient Babylon laid its foundation when it got its fundamentals set in the treaties of Tetrabiblos in 120 AD by a Greek astrologer, Claudius Ptolemy. In the 9th century, Islamic astrologers studied the ups and downs of a nation by relying on the cycles of Jupiter and Saturn. This led to the second phase of development in mundane astrology. In the 20th century there was a major proliferation of techniques in which planetary cycles and their influence on the natal chart where taken into account. This, in turn, led to yet another phase of development in mundane astrology, the third one.

There are different approaches by which we can study the mundane astrology. In olden days, the most ancient method of associating incidents like geological occurrences - such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. - and astronomical incidents was based on the movements of celestial bodies in the Solar System. The latest method focuses on the horoscopes of a nation which takes into consideration facts like the time and date of a country's independence.

In mundane astrology, the signs and the planets in the natal chart of a country are thought to be factors of major importance when it comes to influencing the respective country's political stability, financial position, natural calamities, and relationship with other countries. All these things are studied by doing readings that rely on the planetary movements which directly impact the different houses and signs. However, mundane astrology does not resume itself to only creating the birth chart of the country, but it also takes into consideration the natal charts of the rulers (or other political executives) of that country.

Ceres and Our Inner Emotional Life

Ceres connections in synastry can reveal how one person accepts (or doesn’t) their partner’s nurturing. “Nurturing” is defined as caring for someone, and fostering their growth. Ceres (or Demeter) is named after the Goddess of the crops. She had a daughter (Persephone) and they were close. So close, in fact, that Ceres never wanted to let her go. Then Pluto (or Hades) kidnapped Persephone and dragged her off to the Underworld. Ceres’ grief was intense. In retaliation, she denied mankind their food by making the crops wither and die; she was hurting, so everyone else would as well. A deal was eventually struck with Pluto, and Persephone was allowed to spend part of the year above ground, with her mother. This was when Ceres allowed the crops to grow. When Persephone spent the rest of the year below ground, the crops were dormant. So Ceres’ cycle of growth and loss reflects the cycle of life. In your chart, her sickle-shaped glyph describes how you handle that cycle.Aspects to Cer...

When You Should Get Your Birth Chart Done

Have you ever gotten your 'chart done'? In the field of astrology, a 'chart' is a representation that demonstrates the position of the planets, Sun and moon at a particular moment in time. The position of each planet, its movement and relationship with other celestial bodies can give an astrologer insight as to the influences in play at that particular time. There are 5 times in life when you should consider having a chart drawn up. When You Discover Astrology Once you discover the field of astrology, it’s a worthwhile investment to get a natal chart done. Everyone’s chart is unique because a full chart deals with not just your birth date, but the specific minute and location of your birth. Some people try to draw up their own natal charts using a website or book—and while this might give you an accurate plotting of the chart, only someone trained and experienced in astrology can truly interpret it. There is more to interpreting a chart than just reading a l...

What Does the Number 666 Actually Mean

666. The Mark of the Beast, the Antichrist, the Devil’s number. Seeing it strikes fear in the hearts of many, while others find it simply amusing. Whatever your viewpoint, this number always seems to draw attention and controversy. Most commonly associated with the Bible in the Book of Revelations (13:17-18), 666 can be symbolic of many things and have multiple meanings. In the realm of numerology is 666 really all that evil? What’s in a Number? To paraphrase Shakespeare, What’s in a number? That which we call evil by any other number would still be bad. Numbers are often used as symbols, but what really counts is the intention behind them. Numbers in and of themselves are neither good nor bad. It is we who assign meaning to them. After all if you had a winning lottery ticket with 666 on it, would you object? The Many Interpretations and Representations of 666 Either way, numbers can be looked upon for guidance in our lives. The ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras was a tr...
