Aries New Moon in the Houses

The New Moon is Aries is like walking through a purifying fire, to burn off sleepy habits and get you animated.  In the direct glare of Aries, the essence of a situation -- or what needs to happen next -- becomes clear.  Avoid flame wars and power struggles that tie up your energies.  Aries is a cardinal sign, making this a lunation to act (wisely). What's been germinating through the winter months is now ready for launch. This is the very first sign of the Zodiac. What's seeded now has the force of Spring behind it. Look for ways to direct any intensity toward what you'd most like to see happen. Aries New Moon in 2014 is on Sunday, March 30th at 2:45 pm (Eastern-US).  It's a super-charged one -- here's a fresh take on the Aries New Moon (2014).   The Sun and Moon are aligned at 9º Aries 59′ (go ahead and round up to 10) -- where does this fall in your birth chart? Look for the Aries glyph around the outside of your wheel. Take note that Aries mig

Astrology and the Beatles

What do you need when you start an ambitious business enterprise with Eastern spiritual leanings and a hippie sensibility? If you’re the fabulously wealthy Beatles pop rock singing group you open a trendy boutique on London’s Baker Street and hire an in-house astrologer to advise on both personal and business-related timing issues. The Beatles opened their first Apple Corp. business enterprise, the Apple Boutique, in December 1967.  By this time, the rock group’s coming-out party on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City was in the rear view mirror, as was John Lennon’s infamous “we’re more famous than Jesus” remark, which incited denunciation and Beatles record bonfires in the U.S. and elsewhere. In December 1967, the rock group’s widely publicized visit to Rishikesh, India and the ashram of Transcendental Meditation ™ founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was only months away.  According to critics, this was a musically productive period and helped to solidify the grou

Spring's Arrival and the Cardinal Grand Cross

The roiling, tumultuous energy of this spring seems to be in full spate already, but it promises to become stronger and stronger into April. The question is: how do we shoot the rapids in our own little coracles without tumbling into the flood? There is no getting away from the fact that the  Cardinal Grand Cross  forming at the end of April is potentially  dangerous . We are already well in that zone. We know what the Uranus-Pluto square feels like, but this time around both Jupiter (exaggeration) and Mars (action) will be in exact aspect too. Here is the chart for the moment the Sun moved into Aries today (now yesterday), the very first breath of the zodiac year. You can see that Pluto is already in position at 13° and Uranus and Jupiter are within aspect too. By April 23, Mars Rx will have clicked into place and those heavy planets will be at at 13°. The United States' Sun is at 13° Cancer. Russia's Mars is at 13° Capricorn. China's Mercury is at 13°

Mercury in Pisces Trines Jupiter

Mercury in Pisces is dreamy to begin with, but when it trines Jupiter at 11 degrees Cancer (from March 24th to March 26th) those dreams will know no limits. Pisces and Jupiter are both expansive influences. Jupiter boosts the sense of potential and Pisces dissolves boundaries. That makes this brief influence fantastically hopeful, optimistic and very sweet (not to mention empathetic). Emotional Cancer ensures that Mercury in Pisces’ mystical detachment will be brought down into the realm of feelings. You don’t have to  do  anything with this energy. You can just allow your mind to drift and contemplate what might be. This is a euphoric influence, and sometimes you just want to enjoy the sensation. But if you’re so inclined, you can use this influence to: Have a discussion where positive, buoyant words/thoughts are important Make an announcement/send an email where you’d like your words to be viewed in the best possible light Attempt a reconciliation Break through a cr

How to Heal Your Chakras with Crystals and Stones

Who among us really understands the chakras? For all that we know about these seven spinal energy points, much is still undiscovered. According to ancient texts, the chakras appear as spinning wheels of light. In fact, the word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel. Chakras receive and emit energy, which may be either negative or positive depending on the health of this energy. During the healing process, you will discover differences in the needs of each chakra. You needn't fear this challenge. Think of your chakras as a garden, with each flower requiring specialized care. Some chakras will require less attention, while others are more demanding. The dedication to this self-scrutiny makes healing the chakras as challenging as it is rewarding. The guidelines below may be modified to your needs. When choosing stones, be attentive not to the size or appearance, but instead to your reaction when holding them. Some of these crystals may be unfamiliar, but you are likely to find t

Astrology: Why It Is More Acceptable in Present-Day Society

Based on an article by Edward Snow in the Astrology News Service, the (US) National Science Foundation (NSF) reports that Americans in 2012 are less skeptical of astrology compared to any period since 1983.  The NSF reports the high point (66%) for those claiming astrology was “not at all scientific” was 2004 but by 2012 only 55% of people shared this belief.  Young people in the 18 to 24 years age group show far greater acceptance of astrology with 52% of this group believing astrology was unscientific in 2010 but only 35% shared this view in 2012. In 2010, 64 percent of respondents in the 35 to 45 age group believed astrology was unscientific but two years later, only 51 percent felt this way. There are always numerous astrological ways of examining any development in the world, but I will be restricting myself to the astrology of the astrological ages – mainly the sub-periods of the ages.  Most astrologers have no direct exposure to the sub-periods of astrological ages an

Renewal and the Grand Cardinal Cross

As promised, here’s my dissection of April’s Grand Cardinal Cross. Check out  this post  for introductions, dates and degrees. What do we know about Cardinal signs? They are initiators; they mark the cusp of an event. Each Cardinal sign heralds a change of season (Libra/Fall Equinox, Aries/Spring Equinox, Cancer/Summer Solstice, Capricorn/Winter Solstice).  Yes, this Cross will be about change (obviously),  but I would expect to see some firsts here as well. We’re talking  brand new territory . Uranus in Aries  is the wildcard, the unexpected drive for liberation. Squaring  Jupiter (expansion) in Cancer , we have an unexpected (possibly overwhelming) emotionally-driven push (no logic).  Jupiter in Cancer  squares  Mars  (action) Rx in  Libra,  and Uranus  will oppose  Mars . Mars’ reversed motion suggests frustrations or inappropriate reactions to the Uranus/Jupiter influence. Being not quite prepared for what’s thrown at you. Or, being pushed to rec

Mercury Resumes Direct Motion

This week the exciting astrological news includes Jupiter resuming its direct motion after four months. This past period astrology commonly describes as driving with the parking brake on. Of course it didn’t make you stop moving forward, but it felt strange, and once it starts gaining momentum, you will come back to knowing better that you can achieve more in the outside world. Aries : Chances are that you’ve been looking at the place where you live for the past couple of months and wonder how much longer you can survive there. You need a bigger space. With this week you can go back to your autumn plans and start envisioning yourself in the space where you will feel more comfortable, and also where you can fit some of your gym equipment. Taurus : If you take a closer look at the network that you have built around yourself, you may find that it’s been pretty slow over the last couple of months. People may have not responded so well to what you had to communicate, and you

The Eleventh House, Wishes, and Achivements

I have a book by astrologer Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson, Here and There in Astrology,    first published in 1961. It contains all manner of astrological tid-bits which provide food for thought. In the Introduction the author says that the first part of the book is "designed to give the student of astrology a new, different and much simpler approach to his work with natal charts...." How much validity to attach to the method described below under the headingWhat You Want and Whether You Get It in Part I of the book, is up to the individual. While I understand the thinking behind it, I do feel a tad uncomfortable with it. At times astrology can be made to seem something akin to a board game. Best way to assess this particular proposal of Ms Goldstein-Jacobson is the old "suck it and see" method! Here's an excerpt from What you want and whether you get it, with some exact quotes mixed with shortened versions, or clarifications, in my own words. Mrs J

Venus in Aquarius: What to Expect

What's Up:   Take note, Venus is in Aquarius from March 5th to April 5th in 2014.  The fresh air whirls around in love and friendship, with Venus in this air sign.  This follows a long, 'heavy' time with Venus in Capricorn (early Nov 2013 to March 5th).  The 2014 March forecast features Venusian behavior, with aspects that free relationships from deeply ingrained patterns.  A key word is freedom, to update our social lives, to align with who we've become and are becoming.  Social Buzz Venus has been under the influence of Saturn, the planet of responsibility while in Capricorn.  Now the love planet has some  breathing room  in this air sign--  what's favored is meeting others in a friendly, detached way. The Venus Aquarius  natives  are restless, and ready to break with convention.  The same tired way of engaging, stilted etiquette and the habits of being  politically correct  are blown apart.  Aquarius is the sign of scrambling the same ole, w
