July 2014 Astrological Overview

The summer solstice marked the peak of light and brightness and we currently find ourselves in a period of growth and richness: fruits ripen, creativity reaches a maximum level, and relationships develop. The Sun is currently in Cancer, but in July it will move into Leo, sign which encourages us to embark on a grand adventure. Jupiter joins the Sun in Leo on the 16th of July, then these two planets merge at 2 degrees Leo on the 24th of July. The Sun’s movement from Cancer into Leo represents a favorable time for us to contemplate our origins and our boldest dreams. Basically, July is a month in which we should celebrate the things which enthuse us and share them with the world.

Mercury has resumed its direct motion on the 1st of July, but it isn’t out of the shadow yet. Therefore, we go over the retro degrees until the 17th of July. During this period, we will experience moments of clarity as dots connect to reveal meaningful units.

Venus enters Cancer on the 18th of July, promoting a general feeling of coziness and comfort. The Venus-Cancer combination determines us to seek a certain kind of security: that which results from emotionally stable connections. Venus confronts the love demons on the 27th of July at 12 degrees Cancer-Capricorn. This is when we begin questioning some of our relationships. July ends with a powerful alliance between Venus and Uranus in a square on the 31st of July. The influence of Pluto will make itself felt by bringing to light our spontaneous side.

At the beginning of the month, Pluto is at its closest to Earth. Given that this planet is the herald of death and dangerous secrets, we may feel pressed to address some of our own pending issues. On the 4th of July – Independence Day –, there will be a showdown with Pluto, astrological event from which we will emerge changed in a certain way (because Pluto is the master of metamorphosis). Whether you live in the United States or not, you don’t have to express patriotic feelings on the 4th of July in order to experience the effects of the opposition between independence and servitude – these two engender universal feelings in any individual’s heart. The question which imposes itself here is “What does it actually mean to be a free earthling?”

Creativity has been mentioned in the beginning of this article. Creative energy will be released generously as result of us facing our fears and that which is denied, either on a personal level or on a broader social one. This marks the beginning of a healing process, any destructive energy being converted into creative energy.

Jupiter enters Leo on the 17th of July, where it will stay until August 2015. All Fire sign will be are, therefore, in their element. It’s a period when true love and creative confidence reach a peak level. The natural generosity of Leo natives acts as a guideline for everybody else. Jupiter, too, is a beacon of light, revealing to us the brightest path. The year spent by Jupiter in Leo determines us to stop acting out of inertia and instead become active creators of our lives.

I don't know but it seems like, for me anyway, a very heavy, dark, negative influence began in late Nov. early Dec. last year that carried over into this year and turned absolutely erratic and manic last month. I could be wrong but it seems as though it's lightening up a bit now and turning more positive (however slightly). I hope so. I'm tired of the rollercoaster ride.

It seems that July is a "busy" month given all the planetary shifts which are going to take place. More creative energy is always welcome!

Poor Pluto. Downgraded as a Planet but still able to influence. earth signs will be okay during this time, I think.

Ceres and Our Inner Emotional Life

Ceres connections in synastry can reveal how one person accepts (or doesn’t) their partner’s nurturing. “Nurturing” is defined as caring for someone, and fostering their growth. Ceres (or Demeter) is named after the Goddess of the crops. She had a daughter (Persephone) and they were close. So close, in fact, that Ceres never wanted to let her go. Then Pluto (or Hades) kidnapped Persephone and dragged her off to the Underworld. Ceres’ grief was intense. In retaliation, she denied mankind their food by making the crops wither and die; she was hurting, so everyone else would as well. A deal was eventually struck with Pluto, and Persephone was allowed to spend part of the year above ground, with her mother. This was when Ceres allowed the crops to grow. When Persephone spent the rest of the year below ground, the crops were dormant. So Ceres’ cycle of growth and loss reflects the cycle of life. In your chart, her sickle-shaped glyph describes how you handle that cycle.Aspects to Cer...

The Meaning of Nakshatras in Vedic Astrology

Unique to Vedic astrology, the Nakshatras, or lunar constellations, are directly connected to the Moon and her myriad of expressions. The Moon changes signs (houses) roughly every 2.3 days, taking 28 days to move through the twelve signs of the zodiac. This gives two weeks for a waxing (bright half) Moon and two weeks for a waning (dark half) Moon.  The Moon is connected to our intuition, intelligence and the nature of the mind and emotions. These “Moon parts” within us are ever-changing, fickle, and correlate to the endless movement and change of the Moon. Whereas the movement of the Sun is linked to the 12 signs of the zodiac, the movement of the Moon is connected to the 27 nakshatras. The Moon is the lord of all the nakshatras, where the Sun is the lord of all the rasis (signs).  In the Vedic system of astrology, there are 27 nakshatras (though some texts refer to 28 for specific spiritual purposes) which easily divides the 360 degrees of entire zodiac into roughly 13.2...

Sun Has Entered Sagittarius

On Thursday November 21, 2013 at 10:48 pm Eastern Time, the Sun will enter Sagittarius, the Sign of the Archer and remain there until December 21st. As the Sun emerges from its time in Scorpio, we go from the shadowy depths of soul searching into a new period of optimism and exploration under Sagittarian energy. Despite the cold dark days of late autumn, we will experience a great deal of inner light and enthusiasm. The Sunny Centaur Aside from being known as the Archer, Sagittarius is also represented by the mythical Centaur—half man and half horse. The man, armed with his bow and arrow, aims high for his target, while the horse is ready to gallop ahead. Both sides work together with an attitude of curiosity, optimism and adventurous freedom. Now that the Sun is visiting Sagittarius, we are all treated to the energy of the sunny Centaur. The Sun puts a spotlight on this sign’s already positive outlook, making it sparkle for all of us. While in Scorpio, many of us had our at...
