Equinoxes and Solstices in Astrology

Have you ever wondered about the meaning of an equinox or solstice and how they tie into Astrology? Not surprisingly, there's a major significance to these periods of time and they each have something in common. An equinox or solstice tells us about our relationship here on Earth to the  Sun  at any given season. That's right ... the first thing to remember about an equinox or solstice is that they mark the beginning of a new season. There are two equinox points each year (spring and autumn) and two solstice points (summer and winter). They each correspond to one of the  four Cardinal signs  of the zodiac -- also known as the Cardinal axis. This axis is extremely important in Astrology because it is where we find the powerful angles in a birth chart. These angles are points of energy manifestation. They are highly sensitive points in your chart that trigger every major life event. And there's no better tool for analyzing events in your life than a ...

Sun Has Entered Sagittarius

On Thursday November 21, 2013 at 10:48 pm Eastern Time, the Sun will enter Sagittarius, the Sign of the Archer and remain there until December 21st. As the Sun emerges from its time in Scorpio, we go from the shadowy depths of soul searching into a new period of optimism and exploration under Sagittarian energy. Despite the cold dark days of late autumn, we will experience a great deal of inner light and enthusiasm. The Sunny Centaur Aside from being known as the Archer, Sagittarius is also represented by the mythical Centaur—half man and half horse. The man, armed with his bow and arrow, aims high for his target, while the horse is ready to gallop ahead. Both sides work together with an attitude of curiosity, optimism and adventurous freedom. Now that the Sun is visiting Sagittarius, we are all treated to the energy of the sunny Centaur. The Sun puts a spotlight on this sign’s already positive outlook, making it sparkle for all of us. While in Scorpio, many of us had our at...

Astrology, Superstition, and Truth

Astrology is not superstition. Superstition is more akin to: "If I break a mirror, I will have 7 years bad luck." or "If a bird flies into my house, someone will die," or "If I step on a sidewalk crack, I will break my mother's back," or "When the weather is warm at Christmas, we will freeze at Easter." Those are superstitions. Astrology is not superstition. Not even close. Astrology is a language. It exists. Like Estonian or French. It just plain exists. Like hard boiled eggs or chutney. For some people, languages that they are unable to read or converse in, constitute a discomfiting threat. When we hear friends chatting in a language that we don't know and we are present, we are wont to imagine they are talking about us. This is a kind of natural paranoia. We cannot understand. So we feel left out and perhaps even targeted - a victim. Astrology, like any language, does have to be learned in order to be used. That's why som...

Chinese Symbols of Longevity

The Chinese are incredibly skilled at assigning deeper meanings to various symbols to represent a condition or energy. Walking through their country is a true education on Chinese symbols. Among the myriad of symbols, the Chinese symbol(s) for longevity are widespread and quite intriguing. For example, would you ever think of a gourd to represent long life? In the Chinese culture it is, and is used in the art of Feng Shui extensively. A long, healthy, prosperous life is one of the most admirable and highest goals of humanity. It only makes sense that the Chinese along with so many other cultures would establish many symbols to represent the facets of longevity. You can find the perfect Chinese symbol for longevity that best fits your needs below. I hope you enjoy them. Common Chinese Symbols for Longevity Bamboo: Bamboo is a Chinese symbol for longevity because of its durability, strength, flexibility and resilience. Astrology and Destiny

Your destiny is generally limited to the undeniable and factual circumstances surrounding your birth, such as the exact position of the planets, the time and place of your birth, your birth parents, your gender and so on. It also covers some of the more solid but still mutable elements of your being, such as religion, class and drive. Once these factors are set, it is quite difficult for anything to be done to change them. Everything you do stems from these initial, immutable influences. Destiny is also about those factors of yourself that are predetermined. It pens the conditions that are given by divine or human will. Destiny can't be easily explained and its toll is not subject to human intervention. In addition to being in charge of the facts surrounding your birth and approach to life, destiny structures the aspects of your person. If an individual has an innate desire to pursue a goal, something that has driven them since birth with very little outside influence or encou...

Quotes on Astrology

Financial Seers JP Morgan Millionaires don't use Astrology, billionaires do. John Kenneth Galbraith The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable. As Esoteric Art Henry Miller The vast difference between astrology and other sciences, if I may put it thus, is that astrology deals not with facts but with profundities. The solid ground on which the scientist pretends to rest gives way, in astrology, to imponderables. Isaac Bashevis Singer In many ways, astrology, numerology and palmistry are corruptions of the occult because they have attempted to make a practice out of something that is essentially imaginative. Karen Hamaker-Zondag , astrologer Astrology is one of the earliest attempts made by man to find the order hidden behind or within the confusing  and apparent chaos that exists in the world. A Short History of Chinese Astrology

The year of your birth does not just indicate your age! According to the Chinese system of Astrology, the year of birth indicates a certain phase or aspect of a sixty-year cycle of time. Three systems are used for counting and classifying the years: The ten Heavenly Stems, the twelve Earthly Branches and the twelve Animals. The exact origins of the twelve animal system remain unknown. However, legend has it that, once upon a time, the Jade King was bored, having nothing to do in Heaven. He did not see what was happening on Earth, as he had servants attending to his every wish. He decided that he wanted to see the animals that inhabited the earth, so he sent word to his advisors to bring him twelve animals (which he considered a good sampling). The advisor first sent an invitation to the Rat, telling him to also bring the cat. The Rat's jealousy prevented the cat from actually receiving the invitation. Further invitations were sent to the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the...

Astrology Books for Beginners - 3 Suggestions

When learning about astrology, it's helpful to have one big book on the subject to use as a reference. There are many good books on specific topics, but harder to find a high quality book that covers all aspects of astrology. A good beginning book has interpretations that are written in everyday language, is organized well, and has lots of juicy insights about relationships. To qualify for a permanent spot on the bookshelf, it should have sections with advanced astrology for that point in time when you're ready to go further. Here are three good overall books that offer an introduction to astrology. 1. Parker's Astrology This book by Julia & Derek Parker is one of my favorites, partly because of its wonderful images. It's a colorful picture book, as well as being full of concise information. It begins with the history of astrology and an overview of the solar system, and then introduces the foundational concepts. The essence of each aspect of astrol...

When You Should Get Your Birth Chart Done

Have you ever gotten your 'chart done'? In the field of astrology, a 'chart' is a representation that demonstrates the position of the planets, Sun and moon at a particular moment in time. The position of each planet, its movement and relationship with other celestial bodies can give an astrologer insight as to the influences in play at that particular time. There are 5 times in life when you should consider having a chart drawn up. When You Discover Astrology Once you discover the field of astrology, it’s a worthwhile investment to get a natal chart done. Everyone’s chart is unique because a full chart deals with not just your birth date, but the specific minute and location of your birth. Some people try to draw up their own natal charts using a website or book—and while this might give you an accurate plotting of the chart, only someone trained and experienced in astrology can truly interpret it. There is more to interpreting a chart than just reading a l...

Astrology and Myth - Hecate

This is a time of magic, but also of soulful and even serious reflection. Hecate (Roman) is a goddess of magic and the crossroads, and her realm is the underworld. This week's image is Hecate fighting Giants, which is said to be myth, but has a parallel in (forbidden) history, as well as today's life-death crossroads of humanity. As author Michael Tsarion has said, "Perhaps the greatest myth being purveyed, is that myths are just myths." It's been, for me, a great time for research and revisiting some material that rings true at the deepest level. Anything with "re" in it, is in sync with Mercury Scorpio's retrograde -- the mind has more penetrating focus than usual, and a desire to get to the root or heart of a matter. This idea that human history is far different than what we've been told (and taught), seems to be gaining traction, at least among those on the path of awakening. It comes in the two-fer of the Uranus-Pluto square -- that...

The Meaning of Nakshatras in Vedic Astrology

Unique to Vedic astrology, the Nakshatras, or lunar constellations, are directly connected to the Moon and her myriad of expressions. The Moon changes signs (houses) roughly every 2.3 days, taking 28 days to move through the twelve signs of the zodiac. This gives two weeks for a waxing (bright half) Moon and two weeks for a waning (dark half) Moon.  The Moon is connected to our intuition, intelligence and the nature of the mind and emotions. These “Moon parts” within us are ever-changing, fickle, and correlate to the endless movement and change of the Moon. Whereas the movement of the Sun is linked to the 12 signs of the zodiac, the movement of the Moon is connected to the 27 nakshatras. The Moon is the lord of all the nakshatras, where the Sun is the lord of all the rasis (signs).  In the Vedic system of astrology, there are 27 nakshatras (though some texts refer to 28 for specific spiritual purposes) which easily divides the 360 degrees of entire zodiac into roughly 13.2...
