Weekly Horoscope: April 28, 2014

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20) Any home based project or festivity will be much bigger, bolder and unwieldy than you expect. That is partially because you have such big plans, Aries. My advice is to tailor your expectations, time, ability and money. Once you have everything in a manageable size, go for the gusto and party until the cows come home. Or at least until your guest go home. TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21) You have big ideas, Taurus. Give some of them room to grow and roam. This week you may get unexpected help from an unexpected source that upends your landscape and creates new paths for your big move. Weigh all advice and be choosy about which one you follow. Use a trusted source. Get out of your comfort zone but be sure there are guard rails..   GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21) Friends stress your budget and why not? You are ready to enjoy life and to splurge on every little thing. (No names please!) But all these little things ...

April Eclipse in Taurus - Mark of Renewal

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That lays it all on Neptune and the Sabian for this eclipse, ‘A Fully Decorated Christmas Tree’. A Solar eclipse is when the Moon arrives at a point just right between the Earth and the Sun, so that the Moon appears to be not just conjunct the Sun, but to be aligned directly between Earth and Sun; our view of the Solar orb is blocked (occulted), at least from particular points on Earth relative to the path of the eclipse. It’s an instance, in symbolic terms, of Lunar sensibilities temporarily blocking the light of the Sun (objective consciousness) from reaching Earth. That suggests that Lunar issues for a time overwhelm Sol...

Should Astrology Be Regarded as Irrelevant and Unscientific?

Human beings have always been curious to know their future. Whenever someone is in difficulty and cannot easily come out of it, he wants to know whether the days of his misery will come to an end at all. And if yes, then when? When one invests a great deal of time, effort or money into some project, it is natural to wonder whether that investment will bear some fruit. There have always been people around who have successfully predicted future events. Their methods have been different - some people can simply look into the future, some use tarot cards, some draw up an astrological chart which we call horoscopes, some read the lines in the palms of people. One cannot deny that future has been accurately predicted many a times and by many a people. Each successful prediction proves that it is indeed possible to correctly predict future. In the ancient times, astrologers were held to be in great esteem by the people. There was no difference between astronomers and astrologers. In ...

Planets and Eclipses: 2014 Forecast

Note for 2014:   The eclipses of April 2014 fall at 25 Libra (April 15th) and 9 Taurus (April 28th).  The eclipses of October 2014 fall at 15 Aries (Oct 8th) and 0 Scorpio (Oct 23rd). Look on your birth chart for any direct hits to planets or significant points.  Eclipses and Trailings By looking at where the  Eclipse falls in the Houses, you get a sneak preview of what's to come (or in progress).  And it's also instructive to look at planetary contacts to the eclipse. If there's a conjunction to a natal planet (within 5 degrees), this is the  eclipse ruler. Some astrologers say the last planet aspected by the eclipse, is your main symbolic messenger. An eclipse though, isn't always dramatic or shocking. It's often a subtle, inward, and sometimes profound unfoldment, that happens over a period of time (six months is the rule). Eclipses that aspect the Sun Sun engagement with eclipses are significant miles...

Easter, Rhymes, and Carlings

Best to be topical! Thinking of Easter and the run up to it, into my head popped a rhyme I used to repeat, long ago and far way near the north-eastern coast of England: Tid, Mid, Miserai (or Misere) Carlin, Palm, and Paste egg day. Reciting it as a child, gobbledegook-wise, I didn't care what it meant, I just wanted to get at those chocolate Easter eggs! I later grasped that it had something to do with the Sundays of Lent, and customs attached.  Carlin(g)s are black peas, eaten on Passion Sunday, On Palm Sunday sometimes dried palm leaves were handed to members of church congregations, and Paste eggs (possibly a corruption of Pasch) eggs were what all the kids eagerly anticipated. As for the mysterious first line of the rhyme, there are two explanations: 'Tid' was the second Sunday in Lent, when, it seems, the Te Deum was sung/chanted in church; Mid could refer to a hymn 'Mi Deus', sung on the third Sunday of Lent; Miserai/misere might be th...

Astrology and How It Influences Success

By Peter Chavell One way or another nearly all aspects of life find a mirror in astrology. Whether it be the good or bad, the internal or external; some combination of astrological elements can be found to represent it. In essence, astrology is a symbolic matrix of life and the world around us. For some, this defines something beautiful -- that astrology may be a bridge between ourselves and our part of the cosmos. We may not be able to explain why astrology works yet; but for thousands of years people have been learning how to work with it. One of the key areas of interest in the world today is success. So what does astrology say about success? The Success Planet The planet to look at as being the primary indicator of success is Jupiter. Jupiter relates to expansion, optimism, joy, freedom and goodwill; these are words we might use to define success. But, of course, Jupiter is just one element in a person's horoscope. It may exert a strong and significant role ...

Astrology and Works of Fiction

I had never encountered anything like it  when I first began writing my novel,  The Crystal Ball,  in 1989. I was still learning a lot about writing, and my book and I suffered from genre confusion. I didn’t know if  The Crystal Ball  (then called something else) was a romance, a mystery or some kind of yet-to-be-defined metaphysical and literary variety show. Looking back on the original manuscript, it was a cross between a Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum novel and a Harry Potter book for grown-ups—grown-ups who wished they could live forever in a Fantasyland called San Francisco. Mostly, it still is, throw in a lot of basic 101 presentations on metaphysical topics. I should add; it’s way more grounded than it might first sound. In the intervening years, however, composite genre novels that feature astrology and other metaphysical tools have started to crop up more often. When I began  The Crystal Ball,  I had just fallen in love with Chiron, ...

Libra Total Eclipse on April 15th

Tipping the Scales? The wait is over!  The intense grand cross in cardinal signs in April's forecast is already in edge-of-your-seats play.  Here comes a spike of intensity, with the Total Lunar Eclipse (April 15th) is in cardinal sign Libra. At this big event, the luminaries Sun and Moon are at 25 degrees Libra, and Mars is at 16 Libra, charging the air with big passion and wakefulness. Great powers of creativity and destruction are doing their thing.  How are you directing it? Cardinal signs (Aries - Cancer - Libra - Capricorn) are especially in the crucible.  Sometimes inner and outer whammies happen at the eclipse that have a reverberating or life-altering effect.  Be curious about your expectations themselves.  The Aries-Libra line is especially flashing for some Full Moon illumination.  Aries is inspired action and Libra is action along with the equally charged expectation of a response.  In this experiment called life, ...

Astrology, Mythology and Legends

Aries (the Ram)   March 21st - April 20th Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, represented as the Ram. In the myth of the golden fleece, the ram was given by Nephele to Phrixus and Helle. To escape the wrath of Hera, the pair fled across the sea on the back of the ram. Helle fell off and was drowned, giving her name to the Hellespont, but Phrixus arrived safely in Colchis. There he sacrificed the ram to Zeus who placed it in the constellations. Taurus (the Bull) April 21st - May 21st Taurus is the 2nd sign of the zodiac, represented as the fore part of a bull. It is the snow white Bull which took Europe across the sea to Crete. The bull was Zeus in disguise and Europe bore him three children - Minos, Rhadamanthys and Sarpedon. Minos became king of Crete and his queen, Pasiphaë, gave birth to a bull-headed son called the Minotaur which was later slain by Theseus in the Labyrinth. Some say that Taurus is a later Cretan bull that was slain by Herakles. G...

How to Win the Aries Man

He's ruled by the red planet (Aries man is so absorbed in the moment that he may not notice you at first. He's got his eyes on the next prize. This makes it easier to observe him from afar, and develop a huge crush. When his gaze finally does beam on you, don't wilt and play shy or too smitten. He doesn't want a done deal. That's an instant turn-off to such a forceful and confident man. He's looking for tension in romance, the thrill of the hunt, with the goodies kept at a tantalizing distance until the right moment. In old-school lingo, it's called playing hard to get. In the bedroom, It takes a whole lotta woman to keep this man satisfied. He'll look at you with lusty desire, and make you feel like the hottest thing around. When you're new, you're the "It Girl" of the moment. He's impulsive in love, and comes on strong. He finds you ravishing, but don't let him eat you up in one sitting. Saying "No" sometime...
